Currently, COVID-19 virus has inevitably impacted every aspects of our lives. In Indonesia, the growing case has reached more than 300,000 people that have been impacted in early October 2020 (Satuan Tugas Penanganan COVID-19, 2020). The country has adapted “New Adaptation” or “Adaptasi Kebiasaan Baru” as the people have restarted their lives and building new economy.
This COVID-19 has altered the way we work. Nowadays, we need to do physical distancing with others, avoid touching public surfaces, even avoid to going out of all if it is not important. The company thus obligated to protect its workers by using the “working from home” policy.
There are some strategies to balance company resources by applying certain proportion of WFO and WFH (Office Space, 2020) such as:
- The 10-4 Strategy: employees are scheduled to work in a scheme of 10 days at home and 4 days at the office.
- The 50/50 Schedule: employees take turns (each other) between WFO and WFH, one day on, one day off.
- The One Week On, One Week Off Schedule: employees have to WFO one week, then WFH the next.
One of the main challenges for companies that have several branch offices across cities in Indonesia is to measure the proportion of staffs scheduled to WFH/WFO and determine the best strategy for different operational cities.
Therefore, we provide City Score Analysis to easily measure difficulty level of cities during certain circumstances. We combine several variables such as vulnerability to disease or natural disaster, basic infrastructure, accessibility to activities center, public facilities, and amenities, as well as urban density.
As illustrated here, there are three categories of cities: low (red points), medium (yellow), and high score (green) based on the chosen variable weights; that we can easily adjust based on our preferences. For instance, regarding the pandemic situation, the company might specifically need to incorporate specific variable such as COVID-19 clustering area to consider the risk level of their office areas. Using this City Score, we will directly get the result and decide the best strategy of WFH/WFO proportion based on the categories.
Furthermore, there are also another potential data to accurately measure location’s feasibility to apply WFH policy such as internet network coverage, existing providers, etc.
Having the proportion number of WFO/WFH staffs based on such measurement also helps the company to calculate the incentives for the workers in each operational region. From the results, it is expected that a company can perform efficient funding allocation while applying the WFH policy.
